Afterbirth: Stories You Won’t Hear in Parenting Magazines
The Triad Theater on 72nd and Broadway was abuzz with laughter tonight, and it was all due to Dani Klein Modisett’s sometimes bittersweet, always humorous ode to parenting, “Afterbirth.” The show highlighted hilarious short stories on the challenges of parenting, and featured such comedic luminaries as Caroline Rhea on how breastfeeding is a bitch and Dani Klein Modisett on being the mother of a 5-year old boy who can’t stop putting his hands down his pants…Also reading were Andrew McCarthy (Executive Producer of Lipstick Jungle), James Braly (writer/actor Life in a Marital Institution) and Comedy Central’s Tom Shillue.
The crowd in the intimate, 2nd-floor theater was a lively one: roars erupted for McCarthy’s reading of “Bugaboo,” a tale of one father’s woe over the overpriced stroller that his five-year old can collapse, but he can’t, and for Braly’s retelling of a father forced to face his own mortality when his toddler tells him to “kill the cwab.”
Attendees included Andrea Sachs of Time and Lisa Chase of the New York Daily News.
Afterbirth: Stories You Won’t Hear in Parenting Magazine –a collection of some of the best stories from the sold-out show–is coming out from St. Martin’s Press in May.
